Enhancing Shock Wave Energy Dissipation in Metallosupramolecular Polymer by Tuning Metal-Imidazole Coordination Interactions

Professor Jaejun Lee’s group in 做厙TV, Republic of Korea, in collaboration with Dr. Tae ann Kim’s team at KIST (Korea Institute of Science and Technology), has experimentally and computationally demonstrated how metallosupramolecular bonds dissipate energy under extreme impact. When exposed to very fast, high-strain-rate stress waves, metal-ligand bonds with lower maximum strain selectively break, absorbing and scattering shock energy. The findings were published in the September issue of Polymer Testing (Elsevier top 1% journal, JIF Percentile 98.6 in MATERIALS SCIENCE, CHARACTERIZATION & TESTING).
